The position available is:

  • Closed-term full-time from 29 April 2026 to 24 May 2026
  • Working Monday to Wednesday and every second weekend (76 hours per fortnight)
  • Based in Cardiff

About the Opportunity

As a Peer Worker or Mental Health Worker, you will work in the community to support people accessing our services who have a lived experience of mental health issues to achieve their hopes and dreams. Currently this role would be working as part of the HASI team, though you would not be restricted to this program. You will play an important part in assisting people to maintain wellness and realise their goals. On a day to day basis you will:

  • Effectively and appropriately hold crucial conversations with people who access our services in order to connect with them, support them and build reciprocity, via mutual understanding, trust and shared experience
  • Effectively and appropriately guide and support each individual in their recovery and be strengths, ability and possibility focused, whilst ensuring they are the leads in their own recovery journey.
  • Support the person to make links to the community that meet their recovery wants and needs.
  • Support the person to access activities and opportunities that promote independence.
  • Support skill development at every opportunity through self-directed learning, information, training, and education.
  • Listen to and support people to create opportunities and activities that meet their interests and goals.

The difference between the two roles is a Peer Worker is required to use their lived experience of a mental health issue and personal recovery openly, appropriately and effectively to build professional relationships with the people they support that also experience a mental health issue.

Peer Workers will also use their lived experience to inform and contribute to staff learning, service understanding, and delivering person-led, strengths focused, recovery based language, documentation, training and actions. As a Peer Worker, you will also use your lived experience to work as an advocate on an individual basis and systemically (as required). It is not a requirement for Mental Health Workers to use their lived experience of a mental health issue in their everyday work.
